Sky Broadband is Now available to Sky Subscribers, I personally have it on the Max Package and pay £10 a Month which compared to my past BT contract saves me £15 a month and I now get an 8mb connection, compared to when I tested my speed with BT I was only getting a 5.5mb connection. I found this very strange considering SKY use my current BT phone line. (note changing your ISP to SKY still requires you to have a BT Phone line connected to at least the option1 package)

The Base broadband packages is current FREE(oct 2007) and the MID package only costs £5 a month but has some restrictions to the amount of downloading and uploading that can be processed in a month. If like me you stream alot of video or upload hundreds of photos then get the full freedom of the MAX package, it costs £5 more than the MID offer but has no restrictions or hidden costs.

Broadband Internet is anything from 10 to 150 times faster than traditional dial-up connections,Broadband doesn't tie up your phone line and you pay by the amount you down- or upload rather than the time you spend online, compare to dial-up connections.

You need to put broadband filters into the phone sockets in your house to make sure you don't get interference on your telephone line. Most broadband providers will provide you with 2 of them as standard. They normally have two input connector slots allowing you to plugin your modem/router cable and your normal phone line.

SKY Broadband provided me with a very classy looking modem router. The make is Netgear and the model number is DG834GT. On the base of the router is a SKY sticker which contains the following handy information; SSID (service set identifier) in other words this is the name of your router and you will use this when attempting to get a wireless connection. There are only 12 houses in my close, but two of my neighbours are also use SKY Broadband (I know this becasue they broadcast their SSID and it begins SKY then 4 digits ie.SKY1234). The second piece of key Information is your actual network key. This will need to be entered when trying to get a wi fi connection to the router. The Third piece of vital info is the Channel which the router is set at. Mine Netgear router came set at channel 11, I'm no geek :) so I'm not sure if thats standard or not. Just to let you know, I had to change my channel to channel 1 because I was get terrible interference with my baby monitor. The routers mac address and serial number are also displayed on the sticker on the routers base. I got access to my SKY Netgear Router DG834GT by typing the following into the browser bar http://192.168.0.1/ I then got a pop up box asking for Sky router username and password, I entered the following username = admin - password = sky This then loaded the router settings page. Warning, don't go changing settings if you don't have a clue what your doing. Give the Sky helpdesk a phone, they are open 24 hours.
